You love biking, or cycling, and have been doing it for years, and many thousands of miles. You might be one of those people who've gotten into their 50's, 60's, or even 70's, and feel like you could cycle forever.
At some point though, your desire to maintain pace with the group and your friends, is exceeded by your body's limitations. Life happens, as they say, and the mind is willing, but that body of yours is just not the same as it used to be. You and millions of other active seniors, aren't ready to give up your love of cycling. The hills have somehow gotten steeper though, and the trips somehow now feel just a wee bit longer.
If this is you, then you've come to the right place, to learn more about e-Bikes, or electric assist bicycles.
Let's get one thing straight though - utilizing an e-Bike is not 'cheating'. Trust me, when I say you are going to get the same amount of exercise. Its been proven through studies (and a link to an article below will provide that validation to someone who has tested this for himself). What is going to happen, is that now you will go further, and do so a bit faster, all the while having a lot more fun, and the fun you used to enjoy when your body 'cooperated' a lot more with your mind and heart's desires.
Consider your e-Bike like your best friend in the whole wide world. Because like your best friend, your e-Bike and the electric assist, is simply going to give you a bit of a boost, and do so when you choose and when you need it. The energy stored in the on board Lithium battery, is going to be converted via the motor usually mounted either in one of the hubs at the center of a front or rear wheel, or mid-drive at the pedal/crank shaft.
Sure you can use the motor alone, and not pedal, but that is not why most people purchase e-Bikes. They are folks who want to keep biking, well into their 40's, 50's, 60's, and even 70's. They want to go a bit faster, and keep up with their perhaps more youthful friends, and they want to be able to go farther. Or maybe you have had a knee replacement or other lower extremity ailment, or maybe even respiratory issues. If so, then perhaps trying an e-bike out, is the thing to do.
You are going to be seeing more and more of them here in the US, and often at resorts, or beaches, or trails in the mountains, and many times you won't even recognize someone is riding an electric bike, because the bike looks just like a regular 2 wheeler. But then you look closely, and notice a smile on someone's face, that doesn't go away, and see the joy in that person's spirit and posture, as if they are somehow 10 or 12 or 20 years old again, having so much fun, and seemingly doing so quite effortlessly.
If you are hesitant or unsure, then rent one. Or take an e-bike tour. You can schedule that here on our web-site and we will deliver one to you. How much easier can it get ?
Have fun, get outdoors now that its spring, and grab your friends, because you are going out biking, along the rivers, lakes, through the woods, and over many roads and trails !
P.S. Oh and about that article... check out what this guy found who uses his ebike for his commute everyday. He shows the work out data to prove his e-Bike vs regular bike 'commute' and simultaneous daily 'workout.' http://electricbikereport.com/electric-bike-cheating/ Here is his quote that resonated with me.... “Moving to the eBike added almost 7 mph to my ride. My body worked the exact same but for a shorter duration.” The gains showed up in other places, as well. “The five day commute felt more sustainable and freed up more time with family. Still, the 10.5 hrs of intensity each week is plenty to keep me in really solid fitness shape.”
